The Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) celebrated its 30 year anniversary in its current form in April this year. However, the Polish capital markets have a long history, with traditions going back to the early 19th century. In modern times, the market has seen an amazing development over these three decades. After the fall of the eastern bloc and the Communist government in the late 1980’s the exchange was founded after the parliament adopted the Act on Public Trading in Securities and Trust Funds in April 1991. Since then it’s been an incredible growth story in terms of capital growth, and development into an international capital hub and a gateway to the Polish and Eastern European capital markets.

During 2020, in the midst of the global pandemic, Warsaw saw a healthy return of new listings including 2020's second largest IPO in Europe and among the top 10 globally. The growth story of WSE is certainly worth discussing in more detail.
